Experts and plastic surgeons all agree that the components contributing to the youthful appearance of lips are not just the full lips themselves. They found that the area above the upper lip must be fully developed to get the true pouty lip appearance of youth. A true full pouty lips appearance has a very well defined raised Cupid’s bow (the arches on your upper lip), and well projected philtrum dimple and vertical columns above the upper lip. Plastic surgeons appreciate and recognize that these components may be more important in aesthetic lip enhancement procedures than just having full lips. The current problem with corrective lip enhancement procedures is that plastic surgeons are unable to replicate the natural look of a true full pouty lips. Plastic surgeons can use fillers to pout up the upper area of the lips but it will not look natural. They can shorten the distance between the nose and the upper lip by cutting the skin on your upper lip or under your nose but that area will still be flat. They can shape and contour your Cupid’s bow and philtrum columns using fillers but they will look stiff. If they enhance just the lips and not the upper area of the lips, you are going to get trout or sausage lips.

Lips are ravaged by the aging process. Even the most beautiful lips shrink, lengthen, widen, and flatten with time. You can look at celebrity beauty images and compare their lips when they were in their teens and when they aged. On average, the lips of both males and females reach their prime fullness by the age of 18 after which they start to thin out gradually. If you can maintain your full pouty lips well into your late years, you will look younger than your age, reported by researchers.
